What if my parent refuses care from a stranger?

What’s “sundowning” and can you help with it?
Sundowning is the increased confusion, anxiety or agitation many dementia patients experience in late afternoon and evening. Our dementia-trained carers know specific techniques — environmental adjustments, calming activities, lighting changes — to ease it.
When should we move from visiting care to live-in?
Common triggers: night-time wandering, frequent falls, leaving cooker on, family carer exhaustion, or two or more incidents that suggest unsupervised time isn’t safe. We can advise during the free assessment.
How does pricing work — what’s included?
Visiting care: £30/hour (minimum visit length 1 hour). Live-in care: £1,300/week, includes the carer’s time, training, supervision and coordinator visits. The family provides a private room and meals for the live-in carer. No hidden fees.
Do we have to commit to a long contract?
No. We work on a rolling basis, week by week. If care isn’t working out, we re-match at no penalty. Most families start with a 4-week trial.
Can we get help paying for dementia care?
Possibly. NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) is fully NHS-funded for people with significant clinical needs — dementia often qualifies. Attendance Allowance contributes £300–£480/month. Local Authority Direct Payments can fund part of care. We walk you through entitlements during the free assessment.
What if my parent doesn’t have a formal dementia diagnosis yet?
You don’t need one to start care. Many of our clients begin with general home care while diagnosis is pursued. Our coordinator can help you navigate GP referrals and memory clinics in Cambridge.
