NHS CHC Eligibility Checker — Free 60-Second Funding Check

NHS Continuing Healthcare — 60-Second Eligibility Check

If your loved one has significant healthcare needs, the NHS may fund 100% of their care — at home or in a care home. This 5-question check shows whether to push for a formal CHC assessment, plus what other funding may apply if not.

Important: This indicative check is based on the same care domains used in the formal NHS Continuing Healthcare Checklist (DST 2018, revised 2022). It is not a binding eligibility decision — only a registered nurse or social worker can produce that. Use this result to know whether to request a formal Checklist from your GP, hospital discharge team, or local Integrated Care Board.

Common questions about NHS Continuing Healthcare

What is NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)?

NHS Continuing Healthcare is fully-funded care for people whose primary need is a healthcare need (not a social care need). If eligible, the NHS pays 100% of the cost of care — at home or in a care home. It is not means-tested.

How is the assessment done?

The process has three stages: (1) Checklist — a screening tool any clinician can complete; (2) Decision Support Tool (DST) — a multi-disciplinary team scores 12 care domains; (3) Decision — the local Integrated Care Board (ICB) approves or declines. Fast-Track is a separate, faster route for people in the last weeks of life.

What if my loved one is turned down?

You can appeal. Many CHC declines are overturned on appeal because the four key indicators — Nature, Intensity, Complexity, Unpredictability — were not properly applied. Oath Healthcare supports families through Checklist, DST and appeal stages at no cost.

How fast can Fast-Track CHC start funding?

Once a clinician completes the Fast-Track Tool, the local ICB must respond within 48 hours. Care can start the same day the package is approved, often the same day the Tool is signed. Our team has helped families start full live-in care within 24 hours of fast-track approval.

If we don’t qualify for CHC, what other funding is available?

NHS-Funded Nursing Care (FNC, ~£241/week), Local Authority means-tested support, Attendance Allowance (£72.65 or £108.55/week), Carer’s Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Discretionary Local Authority grants, and Direct Payments. Our team helps you map all available options.
