You Need a Break. We Make That Possible.

Caring for a loved one is one of the most generous things a person can do. It is also exhausting, isolating, and — without breaks — unsustainable. Respite care is how you keep going for the long haul.

Signs you need respite care now

  • You haven’t had a full night’s sleep in weeks
  • You cancelled the last family event or holiday
  • You feel guilty for wanting time off
  • Your own health is starting to suffer
  • You snap at your loved one, then feel terrible
  • You’ve Googled “carer burnout” more than once

If two or more of these are true — call us today. Respite isn’t a luxury. It’s how you stay healthy enough to keep caring.

Discuss this plan

Care home respite typically costs £700–£1,400/week and requires moving your loved one to an unfamiliar facility. Our live-in respite keeps them in their own home, in their own routine.

Why Essex Carers Choose Oath for Respite

Not all respite is equal. Here is how we make sure your time off is actually time off.

🌿

Properly disconnected

You don’t take calls. You don’t update siblings. You don’t check in. We send daily reports, you read them when you want. Real rest.

48-hour start

Need cover this weekend? We can usually start within 48 hours. Wedding next week? Holiday in 5 days? Call now and we’ll make it work.

🤝

Same carer when possible

For ongoing respite, we match the same carer each time so your loved one builds familiarity and trust. Continuity matters.

💷

Carer’s Assessment funding

Many family carers are entitled to council-funded respite via a Carer’s Assessment under section 10 of the Care Act 2014. We’ll help you apply.

How It Works

From your first call to a carer in the home — typically within 48 hours for urgent respite, 7 days for planned cover.

1

Call or request a callback

Tell us when you need cover, what your loved one’s needs are, and what kind of break you want. 10-minute conversation.

2

Free home assessment

For new clients, our coordinator visits to design a care plan. Existing clients can book directly with no extra assessment.

3

Carer arrives, you go

Full handover with the carer before you leave. Daily reports while you’re away. We’re on call 24/7 if anything changes.

Common Questions from Essex Carers

How quickly can respite care start?

For urgent respite (illness, sudden event), we’ve started within 24 hours. Standard turnaround is 48 hours for short cover, 7 days for longer planned cover. Call us and we’ll work out what’s possible.

What’s the minimum booking?

Hourly respite: 1-hour minimum visit. Overnight: single nights available. Live-in respite: minimum 1 week.

Can the council pay for respite?

Yes, often. Apply for a Carer’s Assessment from your local council (your statutory right under the Care Act 2014). The council can fund respite cover, equipment, training, or a small carer’s personal budget. We’ll help you understand what’s available during the free assessment.

What about Attendance Allowance and other benefits?

Attendance Allowance contributes £300–£480/month and isn’t means-tested. Carer’s Allowance (£81.90/week if you spend 35+ hrs/wk caring) helps too. We can walk you through entitlements during the free assessment.

Will my parent be okay with someone new in the house?

Most adapt within a day or two, especially with a proper handover. For dementia clients, we recommend a short trial visit before the actual respite period — most families find their loved one builds trust quickly.

What if something goes wrong while I’m away?

Our senior coordinator is on-call 24/7. The carer reports to us continuously. If anything changes — health, behaviour, mood — we contact you immediately and act. You’re never out of the loop, but you’re also not the one having to fix it.
